Put your hand up if spam infrequently amuses you!
Ok... not a massive showing... but enough to continue. This morning I received an unsolicited email (spam to the kids in the know) titled 'Backpagecms.com' from a gentleman we shall call Jack. Mr.Lesure was offering the said .com domain for the sum of $89.95, using the medium of email. Twice. To two completely different addresses.
$89.95
So, Jessy is offering a domain name that I might actually have interest in (being a developer of a CMS titled Backpage), but at a heavy price. The sex.com debacle and the continued rise of domain name heisting scumbags have a lot to answer for, so initially I completely ignore it! What use EVER comes out of spam? I mean who in their right mind wants to stay hard all night and completely satisfy their lover?
About an hour later curiosity overcomes me. Rather than click the link presented in Jack/Mr.Lesure/Jessy's e.mail and (at best) get baited by an extortionately priced domain or (at worst) confirm my e.mail address for countless spambots to play with, I do a simple WHOIS.
Lo and Behold
Backpagecms.com is free! No lock, no reserve, just sitting there waiting to be snapped up - for regular domain reg prices! *SNATCH* Suffice to say the new domain will be used in the upcoming rollout of the sleek fast and cool backpage upgrade!
The original e.mail, in all its glory...
