A leisurely stroll home this evening yielded a glimpse at this old bird:

It's a casa cn235, tasked with keeping an eye around the shores of Ireland. It entered service in December 1994, and I was lucky enough to get the full tour a number of weeks later. RTE news were proudly gushing about it (deeming it 'top secret') the very day I was pulled aboard. How? Luck and circumstance I guess. I was pulling a stint of work experience in the Irish helicopters hangar at Cork airport, wandered in one morning (stinking of garlic mushrooms!) to find this blue beast sitting where the landing platform for the bell 212 usually sat. Cool I thought, and began to ask a few questions.
Turns out the state's brand new toy had broken! One of it's general electric CT7s had died on a flight (the left engine if I recall correctly), resulting in a landing at Cork airport rather than it's usual home at Baldonnel. The crew (only three if memory serves) were bored off their minds waiting for a part from Baldonnel (it would be delivered by their beechcraft king air later that day) and were glad to show off their new toy.
So little wide eyed me got to stare in amazement while playing the the FLIR, in colour and a good deal more powerful that the cameras fitted to the S61N. Until the batteries began to wind down and we had to turn the play thing off.
Good times =)
Battlestar Galactica Season 3 trailer
Came across the following video - its the same as the YouTube vid from my previous post, but better quality (not much - but I saw some new things!). Click here to add to the anticipation!
